Just got the Ladies classic canvas vest in black - and it fits very well! Well made, sturdy, and a nice fitted shape with the back belt tied. I am a size 14-16, and the size 40 is a perfect fit for me. Will wear it with both my Dickens Faire costume and my Edwardian walking skirt!

Love it! Quality of the fabric and styling are excellent! Great crossover piece with a classy touch for my favorite looks -- can go from formal to casual depending what it's combined with. Something I can wear to work, church, and downtown. The rounded bottom hem works nicely for displaying a fancy belt buckle. The Large size is slightly big for my 44" chest, but the adjustable buckle in the back makes it work, sizing is comfortable without buttons straining. Love the four front pockets, plenty of options for storage. The color is better described as brown/black, not brown/navy. The darker stripe is a soft black, not a blue tone. Love the brown/black stripe as it is, coordinates with more of my shirts/pants/jackets than the brown/navy would. The vertical stripes give a subtle slimming look.

I intend to wear the vest in several upcoming event as a living historian

Bought this and the matching Ferndale Striped spats to complete my patent medicine salesman 'living history' persona and am 1000% pleased with the fit and appearance. I ordered the whole suit; Frock coat, pants, vest and spats. Great quality. I'm 6'2" 215lbs and the XLs are a little on the large size, but I'll be getting them tailored. Not sure if the large would have done it, so not a big issue. LOOKS GREAT. Good weight to the fabric.

Seems great. Haven't tried to wash/clean it yet but the quality is nice. Trust the tape measure. I couldn't bring myself to order a size large as 100% of my wardrobe is XL. Ended up having to exchange it. I think I could have even fit a medium. Trust the tape measure procedure they give you. Also, go a size up on the pants as suggested. The Ferndale combo looks pretty sweet.

This is my new favorite outfit. I feel like a fancy banker or perhaps a mobster. The color is like a worn/distressed navy and the stipes add a dapper touch that accentuates my 6'3" super slim frame. The buttons match the stripes nicely. I feel as the fabric and pattern will wear well for many years. I'm a bit in between sizes, 42" chest, but the medium fits handsomely. 36" waist is my normal, stayed with 36" and they fit great. I do wish the best came in a tall option, but it covers my suspender tabs and waist strap on my trousers. I couldn't wear it with modern waisted pants, but again I'm 6'3" and 190 lbs. I have several vest and trouser sets from Historical Emporium, super excited to finally have something blue.

The vest is of course great quality as I have come to expect. Fit is perfect, however with the light on the pictures it gave tje appearance that the color was that of a lighter blue. It is in fact very dark. It is almost a denim vest. Not exactly what I had expected.

Just got my Humboldt vest, this is a very well made and sharp-looking vest. Nice heavy material, in a dark slate blue/grey, with pleasing stripes. This one does run slightly large - I ordered a XXL, and have a 50" chest and stand 6'2". There is definitely room in the chest, and more in the waist, so order your natural size at the most. Would definitely recommend this vest.

I've never owned a suit that wasn't black, or a black pinstripe; the Humboldt stripe vest (and matching trousers) makes for an excellent change, and one that stands out and gets you noticed. The fit is generous, the colours compliment each other very well (and the buttons match the stripe perfectly), and the texture of the fabric makes the waistcoat suitable for casual wear, as well as part of something more formal, or as I do, for work, on a regular basis (I match the Humboldt vest and trousers with the Livingston black brushed cotton town coat, black boots and a white shirt and black tie combo as in the pictures above - trust me. It works). If you're thinking of buying it, believe me, it'll make a very fine addition to your wardrobe.

This one was a bit more like a blue jean vest than I expected but it works well on more casual work days with khaki's as the stripes blend in to match.

No occasion. I just saw it and wanted it. My first objective was a dress vest to wear at Christmas time to replace the one my mother made for me a hundred years ago, which I had outgrown. My son purchased it from you for my Christmas gift. In my search I came across this one and liked it.

I'm a tall guy and a big guy , and have always had problems finding vests that I am comfortable in and that even look like they fit. They almost always feel to short in length and there is always too much space between the bottom of the vest and the waist of my pants . I bought this vest in the 3XT , and even though they were a special order and took a few days longer to get , when it arrived it fit PERFECTLY .

My usual style is Western wear, but hard to find quality inTall sizes. When I checked some shirts offered by Historical Emporium, the ones I liked didn't come in a Tall size, so I emailed to complain.They said they do offer some in Tall, so I looked again and found this gem of a vest. Looks way better than the online photo!

No occasion. Just thought I would start gathering my western attire. I wore to church and everyone really like it. The only problem I have is that, I measured wrong and I chose my usual size(XL, when I should had chosen 2XL). It doesn't go over my belly, but that's ok, because I can wear it unbuttoned. The bow tie fits great. I want to build a complete western outfit, but I'll have to do it one piece at a time. I would like to get a pair of cowboy boots next or maybe a couple of shirts(Bib styles). Then, I'll work on getting a couple pairs of pants. At least, that's the plan. I'm very happy and glad I found this store. I check this site often and add items to my wish list. This vest is spot on. Had to workout an exchange because I needed a tall - MEASURE THE LENGTH! You'll save yourself the trouble. Once I got this vest though I was sold. The quality is great. Nice solid canvas with a beautiful texture. It's already starting to soften and bend more easily with some wear. The buttons and back strap are all super solid. I am a pastor and occasionally I have an opportunity to do a service that requires a vintage Parsons outfit. I'm going to be speaking at the 100th anniversary of the Easter sunrise service at a famous rock in my city that has been used by traveling preachers since 1837. My other vest was getting a little too tight so I needed a bigger one.

I use the items that I buy from Historical Emporium for everyday wear and having access to canvas pants and vests at reasonable prices is very nice. Shipping is fast and customer service is THE best I have delt with lately.... I cannot express how happy I am overall with Customer Service for Historical Emporium. The only small drawback is that sometimes the sizes I want are out of stock at the time I want to order. I have checked back at a later date and been able to find the sizes I want, so I would advise others to be patient and check back.

I bought this vest after being less than impressed with my 'old fashioned' vest from another retailer. I absolutely love this vest! It has a full cotton, tan back to it. The cut is great. Going for a bit of a settler look for my wedding on my side, and this one helped me hit the mark. Strong recommendation for the look and quality.
