This is a great frock coat and I really wanted to love it. Unfortunately, even though the sleeve length and chest were perfect, it is cut really long and just didn't fit my frame (I'm 5'7" coat size 38). The photo shows it to be cut about 2 inches above the knee, which would've been perfect. I could live with it being at or even slightly below the knee. However, it was at least 8 inches below my knees, which just looked ridiculous. I returned it and ordered a different model.

Ordering clothing online can be quite "hit or miss" as to fit. This coat fit perfectly - chest size 46. Wearing the coat for a week+ now has definitely turned heads and garnered many positive comments. Dapper is the most prevalent, followed by "quite a statement." All recognize the era the coat represents, though they may not be able to verbalize it. Several people have nailed the look to TOMBSTONE. (Kurt Russell 1993). Having experienced a perfect fit in this beautiful coat, I am seriously considering purchasing the Rifle Coat in the near future. Indeed, quite a fashion statement.

I just wanted to put together a distinctive semi dressy outfit to wear out with friends and family for nice events, so this coat suits my needs perfectly. It's classic, handsome, masculine, very well made and very comfortable. I am going to alter it slightly by having a black satin detailed handkerchief pocket added to the left chest area, and I'll also consider adding a matching pair of black satin trimmed pockets just below the high waist seem. I like the functionality and look of these pockets. The size 46 is what I measured for and is what I ordered, and it fits me perfectly.

Bought the Callahan frock coat to use during Museum tours of which I am a docent. Received many compliments on my outfit, all of which comes from Historical Emporium. I portrayed a Victorian undertaker for the Halloween season and was told I looked like I fell out of a history book. Couldn't have felt prouder. Heavy weight coat which should keep you fairly warm when the cooler fall weather sets in. I'm happy with the color as it is a rich black and not charcoal. Material is a bit coarse but not a problem. Fit is true to size ordered. Happy with my purchase.

I already left a review for the tan chore coat which prompted me to buy the blue one a few weeks later. Not much else can be said about this chore coat other than that the texture of both coats are very different but equally impressive. It’s almost as if they’re two totally different chore coats. The blue chore coat is a more casual friendly, coat while you can really dress up the tan coat with a more semiformal look. This is one of the best chore coats being sold on the market at a phenomenal price. The construction is top notch, the coat itself has a very nice heftines to it, and I love the taper waist line, which really shows off the physique. As always historical emporium never disappoints.

I receved this coat faster than expected. I checked it over very well and the qualitty is excellent. I have yet to wear it , but if the multitude of other clothing that I have purchased at Historical Emporeum, I'm sure that I will be well pleased.

Product was great and fairly heavy but arrived with a significant crease on both shoulders due to tight packaging. I hung it for a couple of weeks but finally resorted to pressing it out. Gives a wonderful turn of the last century look.

I’ve not had a chance to wear my Livingston Sack Coat yet due to the warm temperatures but I’m glad I went for this instead of the slightly longer cutaway style,Not dismissing the aforementioned as a possible future purchase though. I think that when I can consistently wear it, It will soften up nicely and ‘Give’ a little. I will try to wear it when I don’t need to take too much of what I would term ‘Inside Pocket Clutter’ as I think any bulging would affect the shape,style and cut of the garment. I bought this coat/jacket because I needed to fill a gap in my wardrobe. I have plenty of frock coats and fancy vests, but not a lot of practical everyday stuff. I was a bit worried about getting the size right, as it's slim fit and I'm slightly overweight. But it turns out to be perfect in size 46, all that's too big is the sleeves which need taking up, as per usual. I don't really need to button it up, but I can at least do up the first one which is all that's required. It's a coat you can dress up or down. It looks good with vintage or modern style, and to the untrained eye it just looks like an ordinary business jacket or something similar. But once you start wearing nice waistcoats and ties, people start complimenting you on how dapper you look, et cetera. You start to become more noticeable. It's best worn with bowties, I think. It really completes the look, and is less intimidating. I wear brightly coloured ones as the outfits I wear with this end up being very dark on their own. It also looks vaguely reminiscient of Winston Churchill's iconic outfits, so it might be suitable for cosplay purposes. One thing I will say, is that as with any brushed cotton coat or jacket, it's a lint magnet, and it attracts dust and detritus all over. Especially in solid black. So it's a good idea to brush it regularly, if not every day you wear it. Overall, it's a great coat and essential if you have any ambitions to wear vintage styles every day. I was in general pleased with this coat ,however the stitching on the back ,is as a Frock Coat therefore slimmed down ,whereas a Sack Coat should be a DrapeBack Box Shape.The button Holes I found were too small for the buttonsI bought a size 42 though my English size is 40,so bearing on mind the slim nature of the cut a size 44 would have been better

Great fit. Sturdy somewhat stiff at first. But with a day of wear, it's worn in good. Love this coat!

I've always had a difficult time finding clothes in the style that appeals to me. Then I found Historical Emporium and ended up buying 12 items within a week. The fit and quality is outstanding on every item, and they're in a earlier style that I like much more than modern, suits or sports jackets that are heavily tailored and I find generally uncomfortable. Beautiful Sack Coat. Love the styling and the many compliments received. Rich texture, deep black color and the coat size is "true to fit." Wish there were additional dark color options like a navy blue or burgundy.

I love this coat. It is cut differently than today's coats. The shoulders are wide with a little padding. It allows you to move. And unlike today's coats/jackets, the waist isn't huge. It is cut slim. The brushed cotton is heavy and just feels luxurious. I am thrilled with coat and will wear it frequently.

A quality coat with accurate sizing & authentic styling. Low shine cotton fabric is perfect for the look and comfort I wanted. A little watch pocket might have been nice, but no real complaints. I'm very pleased.

Purchased for Horace Vandergelder in Hello Dolly; we decided it was time to build our late Victorian costume stock by investing in a few quality pieces. Unfortunately, this jacket reads dark green, not true grey. Also it was folded for so long that there are deep creases where the shoulder padding meets the front of the jacket that I don't would come out without major steaming. I plan to exchange for a wool frock coat, assuming the 40R works for this long-armed actor; otherwise will have to use this one in black (due to the unfortunate greenish tinge of the grey cotton).

A nice looking coat but was advertised as cotton but in reality is only 75% cotton. Might get to use this if I change the buttons. Good fit though.

I ordered this and several other items for my daughter's upcoming wedding. The entire package arrived several days earlier than expected, and I was skeptical of the purchase, but once receiving all the items I realized the material quality was high the fit was perfect and the price was great. I'm creating a mid-1800s clergy outfit and this coat, with the matching trousers (and suspenders) arrived quickly and, though the material is thicker than I would like, they fit as sized and only needing to shorthen the sleeve length and trouser hem. Amen :-)

This Livingston cutaway sack coat is a very well made coat with an all round tailor-made look & fit's me well the sizing was spot on to my size that i ordered. This is an excellent addition to my Old West wardrobe & highly recommended as a purchase.

The Livingston cutaway sack coat is a VERY NICE coat for the money . It runs true to my standard suit coat sizing and fit me perfectly . The only problem i had was that the top button hole was sewn too small for the button . Easy fix for me so i just handled that problem in house.

The product came in good condition, and it was very sturdy and well made. It was just a TINY bit stiff when we took it out, so trying to get it into a more natural shape to put on our actor was a little tricky indeed. The pants were not the correct size , so I think on the next order we would check more closely on the style and the sizing of trousers .Overall very satisfied with this company and it's products. I loved this coat when I first saw it on HE modeled with some trousers I was interested in. While I tend only to purchase natural fiber fabrics, I was very pleased with the look and feel of this blend! I was especially happy that it is a lighter/medium weight fabric than it may appear in the photos. But it's not an inexpensive feeling lightness -- it has a very nice hand. I already have long coats for cold weather wearing here in the PNW, so this one is absolutely perfect for spring, and even summer and fall. I'll be wearing it a lot! This coat is nicely constructed, and will likely hold up for my lifetime. The only negative is the plastic buttons. For me, they detract from the otherwise elegant look of this coat, but the price point for such a fine garment was very reasonable. I did replace them with some nice leather buttons, which likely would have added a lot to the shipped price, but make a big difference in the overall effect.

The size is a little small but that's OK because I wear it in lieu of a jacket and wear it open. If I was going to wear it as an overcoat I would order a larger size. Light weight for southern living.

I really like the Emerson Frock Coat. I usually stick to 100% cotton or wool, but this coat is a very nice blend. The material is soft and comfortable and it has the weight of an average sports coat. It seems to be the same material as the tweed Inverness coat. The flap pockets on the front are functional, not just for show. The detailing is solid. All around, this is a nice, well made Frock coat. I am delighted to have added it to my collection.

Coat is well made, fits properly and looks great on. The only negative I might offer is that the nap of the lapel doesn’t seem to lie flat. It may be tailored incorrectly but it might just need a good pressing. I haven’t had a chance to sort it out yet. At any rate good value for the money spent.

This jacket has 4-buttons and is a classic - no pockets to bulge to make you look fat but slimer. Nice feel and warm. I did have the shoulders reduced a little - I m loosing weight and muscle tone, but love it.

Having been a Civil War reenactor for almost thirty years, in various time periods, I like the look of a frock coat. And wonder why they were ever shortened to the sack suit. The Emporium is my go-to shop for period clothing. I only wish I could afford more!

The Emerson Frock Coat is very well put-together. It's a little heavier than I was expecting. Not too much so but, with a cardigan, would make for a quite reasonable Fall weight overcoat. The inner pocket is a bit higher than one might expect, but not at all difficult to access. Just an adjustment going from my Coburn to this (plus left/right transition). Very happy with the build quality, fit, and finish.
