I had to appear in a morning coat suit for a formal academic event with European protocol (the men wore either their academic regalia or a morning coat suit). It turns out that the coat is not easy to come by in the US, but I was fortunate to run across the Historical Emporium's website. They had the right coat in my size in stock and shipped right away. It's a nicely made coat in exactly the right style, although the materials are modern, light weight and comfortable. I'd certainly buy from them again should the occasion arise.

Received the coat and tried it on immediately and noticed how light it was, which was a very big plus for the temperatures that we find on the middle Gulf Coast of Texas. The sleeves were about 6 inches too long, but that was good since the wife can sew (I can too, but only when I have to) and she could fit it to my arm length. Very happy with the coat so far and see no issues at this time!

We were using this jacket as a costume piece for a show. It arrived in record time which was great. We also needed an extra large size which wasn't easy to find anywhere else. The sleeves needed hemming but that 's ok better than too short. The coat was well made and can be kept for future endeavors. It looked amazing and really added to the character.

If you got your measurements done well this coat is a wonderful fit. I did some research on how the coat should drape on the person, and this rests really well on me. I am below average height for a Caucasian male in between 5'5" and 5'6". The morning coat is longer than is traditional due to my shorter stature, but I don't mind that at all. It looks like it was tailored just for you if the measurements were done right.

I purchased this for a costume design for Watson and it worked lovely! We were able to Quick Rig it on and off the actor so quick costume changes were possible. Will be buying time period stuff from here always!

Very well made. Heavy frock coat. My correct size is 44R but it was too big in the shoulders. It's such a nice coat I choose to have it altered rather than spend it back.

Having been a Civil War reenactor for almost thirty years, in various time periods, I like the look of a frock coat. And wonder why they were ever shortened to the sack suit. The Emporium is my go-to shop for period clothing. I only wish I could afford more!

The Emerson Frock Coat is very well put-together. It's a little heavier than I was expecting. Not too much so but, with a cardigan, would make for a quite reasonable Fall weight overcoat. The inner pocket is a bit higher than one might expect, but not at all difficult to access. Just an adjustment going from my Coburn to this (plus left/right transition). Very happy with the build quality, fit, and finish.

I'm what is known as a serial kilter . Which simply means if I'm not at work I'm in a kilt. The cape I bought will be a great addition to my outfits in the winter when it gets cold here in Ohio and I'll still look stylish and look even better once I remove it. I purchased this not for historical purposes but as a layering option. We've had a few cold days so far here in southern Wisconsin, and the Inverness Cape has performed very well. It's quite warm, and though I was worried about sizing since it's a one-size garment, it fits me well. Even generously; I'm 6'0" with 34-inch sleeves and the cape falls just above my wrists and mid-calf. I've worn it over a collared shirt and over a fleece hoodie, and I'm confident that it will fit over a heavier coat as well. The one criticism I'd offer is that the front of the cowl is liable to blowing open in the wind. A button to secure the cowl in front would be a convenient addition, though possibly not historically faithful to the garment as worn originally. I might work with a tailor to add some method of securing the cowl against the wind. But that's a minor point; I would still buy this cape again and I'm quite happy with the purchase.

I purchased this to for Dickens on the Strand this December, and to take with me to Scotland but it was more than I needed for Scotland. I look forward to wearing it this winter.

I wore it together with other Emporium Clothers for the Charles Dickens Festival in Deventer, Holland. It fits perfectly, is very good material and keeps wonderfully warm. I only can recommend it

We live in Michigan and winters can get pretty bitter. My husband had been looking for an Inverness cape for a couple of years, but they’re pricey or costume-y. I stumbled on this one while trying to find the name of the style coat and was surprised to see it was made of wool…and had good reviews. This one runs about the same price as a good quality topcoat, so it wasn’t unreasonable. When he opened it, he was delighted for three reasons: 1) It fit! he’s 6’4” and broad-chested, so normal clothes are screaming for mercy) 2) It was a heavy-weight wool. This weighs more than the Swiss-issued military dress coat he has. Fits him better, too. 3) It is warm. We are at the beginning of our winter and it was too warm for him at 32°.

I wear formal Scottish attire frequently, and the Inverness is the traditional outerwear. Yours fits wonderfully, and is suitable in any weather. I do not hesitate to recommend it as an excellent value.

Possibly the favorite item I've ordered from Historical Emporium so far, this is a strong, sturdy, and warm overcoat with great style. Definitely draws attention, but doesn't look like a cheap costume coat at all. Warm, practical, and effective... kept me comfortable and dry on a recent boat tour of Prince William Sound, Alaska.

I bought this cape on a whim during the sale. I had a slight snag when ordering (not their fault), but worked with customer service on the phone. My issue was resolved quickly and painlessly, and I now own a really nice piece for Halloween and theater. So much nicer than any piece of junk you'd get from a discount store.

This is a great cape. Solid construction and stitching. I am planning on wearing it for conventions but it seems durable enough for frequent wear. I am Definately recommending this product and this website to my friends.

I ordered this cloak along with the Historical Emporium's Vintage Black Velvet Smoking Jacket in order to dress as the Third Doctor from BBC's Doctor Who. Worked like a charm, and I can always dress as Jack the Ripper for those more horrifying of times. I am most certainly enjoying it. The satin has a nice shine to it so the red catches the light quite nicely. A downside to my combination of clothing is that the satin slides off the velvet so I spent a bit of time adjusting it to look right, but when I did it was glorious.

Will be looking good on Halloween!

This jacket has 4-buttons and is a classic - no pockets to bulge to make you look fat but slimer. Nice feel and warm. I did have the shoulders reduced a little - I m loosing weight and muscle tone, but love it.

Duster looks great. Fits me perfect. I wear a size 42 regular, and the medium was the right size. It also gives enough freedom for my Cowboy Action Shooting matches. I'm 5'11" and hangs right at pant cuff level.

I'm an Actor needed in a dark, dreary, outdoor cemetery scene of ages ago, and this caped cloak enhances the look perfectly.

It is a bit concerning to buy clothing that only has one size, but I am happy with the Inverness Cape I bought. It is a large and encompassing coat and depending on how much you wear beneath even the cotton version gets warm. I am 5'10" and 170 lbs and west the cape over a suit jacket and it work well. The wool version might be more rugged for ongoing wear, but as a costume the cotton one is fine.

The cape is great. It is much better quality then I expected. I am very happy with it.

This thing is GIGANTIC! 5 Stars for quality--really well-made--but would best fit 6'3 & 215lbs (tee-hee). Seriously, this cape is comparable to a Mens 3X--maybe larger. A great piece for hard-to-fit Tall & Hefty actors who want quality outer-wear. I will pass this along to another Victorian cosplayer--it's too nice to return. Historical Emporium: Please make this selection in a more realistic option (Men's Large, perhaps?). I would gladly purchase it again if it were available in a smaller size.

I already left a review for the tan chore coat which prompted me to buy the blue one a few weeks later. Not much else can be said about this chore coat other than that the texture of both coats are very different but equally impressive. It’s almost as if they’re two totally different chore coats. The blue chore coat is a more casual friendly, coat while you can really dress up the tan coat with a more semiformal look. This is one of the best chore coats being sold on the market at a phenomenal price. The construction is top notch, the coat itself has a very nice heftines to it, and I love the taper waist line, which really shows off the physique. As always historical emporium never disappoints.

The shipping time was very fast. The fit and finish of the coat is excellnt. The historic styling is spot on. The quality of manufacture is again excellent. I highly recomend this coat for both modern use and second half of the 19th century historic impression.
